Force Office 2003 to save in Office 2007 file formats

Is there a GPO available that I can use to force Office 2003 to default to
the Office 2007 file formats?

During the beta testing there was mention of an ADM called Office11ff.adm
that would become available but I've yet to see it.

I assume the new ADMX/ADML format for the GPOs has slowed things down, is a
GPO going to be available to do this at some point?

It would make migration to Office 2007 a lot smoother.

What exactly is your question? 2007 can Open office 2003 files just
fine. Office 2007 can save as 2003 just fine. Why would you attempt to
convert Office 2003 to handle 2007 features so you could save as 2007?!?!?!?

Like I said, I need it for migration purposes. I need all my users to be

Office 2003 and below CANNOT save to the Office 2007 default. If that's what
I think you're asking.

To the OP: It's the other way around, Office 2007 can be set to save
as the earlier file type as the default. That way some of your users
can stay with earlier versions of Office and some can use Office 2007
and they'll all be compatible, not to the Office 2007 file type but
compatible to the Office 2003 file type.

Yes I know this, however Microsoft specifically announced on the office
website before 2007 was released there would be an ADM template that would
allow earlier versions to save in Office 2007 file formats by default. The
filename was announced as office11ff.adm for Office 2003.

But there's no sign of it.

It can't be that hard to do, it's only a registry entry.

I'll have to try writing one myself.

The capability exists to force Office 2007 to "Save As" Office 2003. And
an Office11F(ile)F(ormat).adm sounds like it would be the template that
would do just that. Perhaps you just remember it backward.

The ADM file for Office 2003, to set the Office 2007 file formats as defaults (files only, not templates) when using the
compatibility pack with the pre 2007 versions isn't available yet, but you should be able to use the information in this article

if you need to accomplish that within the next month or so.
