Form filtering error in Access project

I have a question; I have an Access project with a form including a subform.
When I use the Filter By Form function and fill in a search value (in the
main form only) I get the following error: 'The column prefix NAME_OF_SUBFORM
does not match with a table name or alias name used in the query'

I have tried this on different databases and different tables, and always
with the same result. Anyone have an idea what this might be?

I use Access 2003.
