form letter font style trouble

Frank

W98/Using MS word (Office 97) and Outlook 97 personal addressbook. I am
making a form letter mail merge using addresses I entered in an outlook
personal addressbook. everyhting works great, Except the font for the names
and addresses of the recipients is bold and ugly. I have tried formatting it
every which way, print preview looks fine, but it prints out with the merge
fields in this bold ugly font. what am I missing here? I am sure it is
something easy, but I cannot find it.
Thanks so much

Hi Frank,

With the mail merge main document active, press Alt+F9 to toggle on the
field codes and inside the closing } of the field codes, add the \*
Charformat switch and then apply the formatting that you want to be used to
the first letter of the field code.

Please post any response back to the newsgroup for the benefit of others who
may be interested. Questions sent directly to my email address will only be

Hope this helps,

Hello Doug,
Thanks, that worked great. Fixed it right up. Doug, I have been to many
sights that describe how to do a mail merge. Is there a place that will
actually explain (somewhat in detail) what is occurring and how and why?
everything I have found does not explain the how or why?
Thanks again,
Frank L
