Format all Messed Up

I don't know what I did, but now when I click on "New Blank Document" in Word 2000, when I start typing, it lets me
type a few key strokes and then it jumps like to another column and it also skips spaces and then goes to another like column... like this

(there are dots where it appears there are columns or something). I've tried just about everything. It happens in print view but not in normal. But when I type regularly in normal, when I print it, it still comes out like above. HELP>..

have you gone into the menu bar under format and then
paragraph to check and make sure that it hasn't defaulted
to spacing?
