Format and DDE..................Bet this can't be done.

Hi,i don't think this can be done,but if you can prove me wrong i would be
gratefull.....If i have a cell say A1 which is linked to another cell which
has a DDE link to another program,this is to do with share price data,what i
want is ,if the number in cell A1 is 100 and then changes to say 101,because
the new number is higher than the original (100),is it possible for the new
number to be blue in colour and if the new number is say 99 ie less than the
original to be red?...Im sure you will know what i mean from the way you see
share price programs work on television,say on Bloomberg for example.......

Hi,i did read the other post but it wasn't what i meant,like i said i
don't think its possible,ie when the value of the DDE link changes up or
down the colour of the font changes to coincide with wether the value
as gone up or down....red down,blue up,just like a share trading
platform would work in real time...................Thanks....Shane....UK.

My response was more of a warning to others that you have multiposted your
question. Potential responders could be wasting their time by responding to
this message.

You should pick a single (appropriate) newsgroup and post one message. If you
really think you need to post to multiple newsgroups, then don't send separate
messages to each. Add the headers for each newsgroup to one message and send
that.

It saves you time--since you don't have to check each newsgroup for answers, it
saves responders time--since they won't duplicate anything already posted. And
you get the added benefit of someone improving a suggestion, too.

I don't have a suggestion.

I can do this with circular references and I'm sure a skilled programmer <??
vbg> could do it.

But, we must respect their wishes and leave them alone.

Buy a Bloomberg terminal.

This *could* be done in Excel using VBA, but it won't be as smooth as
the Bloomberg terminal. You'd need to cache the current value, then
have the Calculation event handler check the updated value against the
cached value and format accordingly.

Thanks Harlan,i thought it would be difficult,or at least time consuming,i
have a real time feed,most people in the UK use different feeds to people in
the USA,but same idea,Exel is easy to use,so i shall give some ideas a
go......Thanks again....Shane.



Just a coment on Dave Paterson,fine,i don't have a problem with anyone
talking to me or making sugestions,but to talk to someone whom you don't know
in a condescending manner,well were i come from thats not good.......anyway
forget it.....take care.

Dave Peterson (not Paterson) posts more responses than anyone else in
these NG's, and has answered previous posts of yours satisfactorily.

In all the many thousands of Dave's posts that I have read, he has been
Prompt Yes
Accurate Yes
Understanding Yes
Humorous Often
Condescending Never

His response to you, I did not see as condescending in any way, but an
observation for both your benefit and the many others who read and
respond to each of the NG's and could be wasting their time.
His words are quite true, the maximum benefit accrues when all see the
responses to a question in a single place, then there can often be a
different "take" on the problem, leading to a benefit in everyone's
knowledge.

So, come on both you guys, just "kiss and make up" - so to speak.
It will be to everyone's benefit and cut down on wasted bandwidth with
"sniping" on both sides.
Just my 2 pen'th or 2 cents worth, depending on which side of the pond
you reside<g>

As you say, Dave has a LOT of experience, and, FWIW, he's dead right
about multiposting. But if he's still responding, with his experience,
do you really think he wants mediation?

Every once in a while a good argument is exactly what some people
want. Especially when you know you're right.

Personally, I find the multiposting warnings that others post useful. I know to
not spend my time in that thread in that newsgroup. If it interests me, I may
even look for the other post.

And Roger, I was done with the thread--until the next respnse <vbg>. (I thought
my apology comment was pretty funny--but I'm easily entertained.)
