Format disk

I have looked at other discussions on this and am still having problems with
the Do you wish to format this disk after trying to access files from a
floppy disk. There have been some suggestions about opening or saving
directly to disk. Up until last weekend I was having no trouble with any of
my disks. I keep getting the same message for any disk that I am trying to
open. I have tried to open other files in Paint as well and the same message
keeps coming up. The disks do open once after a full system recovery and then
I keep getting the message. It seems as though I may have picked up some sort
of virus or that my drive may not be working properly. Can this be the case
or can you suggest something else that I could try ?

Floppy drives can go bad. Do you have a friend that will let you see if the
disks are okay? Floppy drives are not expensive.
