Format for Significant Digits

Can you format a number in a cell or rows of cells to be
displayed in significant digits instead of number of
decimal places? [i.e. 21.8, 0.625, 484 instead of 21.8,
0.6, 484.0]

there's no such format. You'll have to use a formula which processes
your value
