Format of slides is lost

I have a slide presentation that works fine by itself. It contains
transitions and custom animations. whe I try to insert the slides to an
other presentation, I loose several of the custom animations eventhough I am
checking the "keep the source formating" box. Can someone tell me what am I
doing wrong? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thank you for replying to my message.

My Power Point Verson is XP 2003 Professional Edition SP1
My computer is a HP, 1.5 gig RAM, with XP HOME
My Presentation was pasted to the same computer. Whether I paste to a new
presentation or an existing presentation I loose some of the formatting. I
do many presentations a month and this is the first time I can say that I
loose the formatting.

On the Tools, Options, Edit tab I have all two checked on the cut and
paste, all two on the text, I have the chart option checked also. I have it
set to 20 undo, and NONE cheked on the disable the new features.

As far as I know, I am current with all the Office Updates. I check the
site at least twice a month.

I use the "insert Slides from Files method" NOT copy and paste. I also
check the keep source formatting chek box.

The presentation works fine by itself. It does all the "custom annimations"
and the transitions as programmed to do. But when I insert all or part to a
new or existing presentation it looses some of the custom annimations.

What do you thinh is the problem?

Thank You for Your Help.

Thank you for the details. Unfortunately they rule out the top 20 or so
easy fixes. :)

First, I would suggest doing a detect and repair on your PowerPoint. It is
possible, though not likely, the program has gotten a wee bit scrambled.

If that does not fix the problem then I would try round tripping the
presentations (both the copied and the copied to) through HTML. If you have
a presentation that has become slightly corrupt (yes, this is possible) than
saving as an HTML and reopening in PowerPoint & saving as a new PPT may
help. This process seems to re-build the inner workings of the presentation
and fixes a lot of bizarre behaviors.

If neither of these work and the problem remains, post back and we'll work
on some more ideas.

Thanks for the suggestions but they did not work. I tried by copying the
slides and did not loose the custom annimations but did loose the background
color (from white to black). The same happened when I inserted them without
checking the keep the source formatting. Do you have any other possible
solutions/suggestions? I guess is not a great deal since it is a small
presentation, but bothers me not to be able to figure out what is causing the
loss of formatting.

Could you email me the presentation (up to 10 megs) or post a site I can
down load it from so that I can try this on my system. This will help to
determine if the problem is machine based, or in the presentation itself. I
will not disclose the contained information or content to anyone else.

If your presentation is over 10 megs, try trimming it down to a couple of
slides and re-saving as a new name (do not change your original). Try the
insert from file and see if this smaller presentation continues to fault, if
it does -- send it along.
