format painter cursor gone

My cursor no longer changes to to the paint brush when using the format
painter (excel 97). It still works properly, but the cursor doesn't
change. Any one know what might cause this?

I'm sitting at an XL97 machine now, and I don't have one, and as far as I
can remember, *never* had one.

Are you sure it was XL97?.

If I remember correctly, my XL02 machine does what you say (changes to a
paintbrush).

Choose Tools>Options
On the Edit tab, add a check mark to 'Provide feedback with Animation'
Click OK

Basically points out that you need Tools>Options>Edit "provide feedback with
animation" checked.

That got it working, but when I close & restart excel it is off again.
I'll check the MS link for more info.
