Format painter do not work properly after Ribbonx customisations Word 2010

After creating dynamic buttons (buttons that are visible/hidden
depending on which template is active), it seems that the format
painter has stopped working properly. It only allows one format
operation/apply after double-click.

Any tips?

An alternative approach is to copy formatting via Ctrl+Shift+C and then paste it, repeatedly if you wish, via Ctrl+Shift+V. Note that you can perform ordinary copy/paste operations in between without losing the copied formatting.

I don't know whether this will help, because your symptoms don't sound
exactly the same. However I too encountered a problem with format
painter and it was fixed by setting a registry entry as described in
this KB: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/900927. In my case the format
painter didn't work at all, and the cause was that I was hooking
keystrokes. However, it might be worth a try.
