inserting a photo on the left side of page, how does one insert text next to
it, beside the photo, NOT on top or underneath but adjacent to the photo.
Also, how do you attach captions to photos?

Use table, with 2 columns and 2 rows.
Insert the image in the first column, the text in the second column.
Insert the caption in the second row

Yes, a table would do it BUT if you have a page of text and you want to
insert the photo (embed it ) in the middle and to the left of the text, how
do you make the text go "SQUARE" with the text as you do in MS WORD and
PUBLISHER?

No, this does not work in ON.

Or, put the picture in one place on the page; then put text in another
place on the page (two separate "containers" on the page); and drag
the second container where you want it relative to the first.

Yes, that's always possible.
BUT: You say "relative".
On fact "verrry relative". Two containers *may* stay in these positions.
But they'll sooner or later get "out of sync". And that's the weakest
point in ON: No grouping/anchoring. {siiigh}
