format problem

I have office 2000. When I am in word and typing a document at the end of
every sentence there is the paragraph symbol and when I hit the space bar I
get a dot instead of just a space. Any suggestions on how to get back to
normal?

Simply click on the icon on the toolbar that looks like the paragraph symbol
and all will disappear. If you hover over the symbol it will say Show/Hide.
