Formats for video

Heidi

What are the formats most commonly used for posting video to a personal
website? I want to post some holiday video, but would like to maximise the
chance that users will be able to view the video without having to download
additional software, and without taking too much time or bandwidth.
Can you help?
thanks,
Heidi

This does not have much to do with Microsoft Publisher, but I'll give you
what information I know anyway.

The most ubiquitous format is AVI. However, this is uncompressed and is
unsuitable for internet transfer.

Windows Media Video is a good compressed format, as is MPEG. MPEG is more
compatible than WMV, although not by that much.

QuickTime is also available, but it is not as easy to encode to.

Streaming video is probably not a direction you want to head for, as it's
only your holiday videos.
