Formatted fractions from PC to Mac

When Word documents created on a PC in which automatic formatting is enabled
to create proper frctions, the fractions disappear when the document is
opened in Word on a Mac. Is there a way to regain the numbers from the
original PC file?

I suspect that if you can add the original font to the Mac they will be
there. This question is best asked on a word.mac newsgroup.

The Apple Roman character set doesn't have any fractions 1/4, 1/2, or 3/4 .
So maybe in WordX, there'll be problems, and it'll only show underscores instead of the characters, even though the fractions may be available in the font. Maybe someone in microsoft.public.mac.office.word knows a work-around, as Charles suggested, but if not, you might have to replace those fraction characters by fudged-up manually formatted fractions.

Format 1/4 manually once in your document (say, using a superscript 1 and a subscript 4).
Then use "Find/Replace":
Use "Find what: ^u188" for 1/4, copy the manually formatted 1/4 to the clipboard, and replace with ^c (the clipboard content).
You can then do the same for 1/2 (^u189) and 3/4 (^u190).

Word2004 shouldn't have any problems with the fractions because of its Unicode support.

Klaus
