Thank you, Herb. Sorry I was away for a while. It's actually my wife who is having the problem on her computer. The version is Word 2000. Files of type is set to Word (that's one of the first things I thought might be the problem). She frequently gets the message upon opening or closing Word that changes have been made to the template Normal.doc and asking if she wants to save them. The response that seems to cause the least problem is "Yes." I don't know why she gets that message in the first place (unless it relates to the fact that Word is also her editor of choice for Outlook).
