Formatting Dissertations

David

I'm looking for an easy step-by-step to help students
with the following page numbering rules

1. Cover page must have no page number on it, but count
as "i"

2. Preliminary pages must be in Roman numbers beginning
with "ii" and be centered at bottom

3. All remaining pages must be in Arabic numbers (1,2,3)
and be numbers at top right

I've figured this all out, except how to make the first
page number ("i") not show up.

Can you help to show me how to do it ALL?
Thanks

Thanks, but try as I might, I, (and others) still get a
page number on all footers of the Main Document once we
get to the step where you do the footer page numbers in
the Front Matter.
I did as you suggested as you formatted the Main Document
headers before changing the Front Matter footers.
Thanks in advance.

Hi David,

Open the footer pane in the Main Document, make sure that the Same as
previous setting is turned off and then remove the number from the footer.

In addition to Doug's suggestion (it is necessary to unlink sections that
will have different footers), make sure you have not inserted page numbers
using the Insert | Page Numbers command. Use only the Insert Page Number
button on the Header and Footer toolbar.
