Formatting not applied as you type

V

Vyto Babrauskas

In using Word 2000, I often encounter the situation that a sytle is
not preserved as I continue to type. I have defined "Normal" style to
have paragraph formatting of the Hanging type. When I start producing
a document and keep typing, sometimes when the material flows into the
next line, a hanging indent is applied, but sometimes it is not. I
have not figured out the reason for this. If I have such a document
and Select All, then apply "Normal" style, all of the lines which were
incorrectly non-hanging do become hanging.

In the Autoformat tab, "Preserve Styles" can be on or off, it does not
affect this problem.

What is happening and how to fix it?

Thanks,

My guess is that some of your Normal paragraphs are acquiring another style.
The most common cause of this is AutoFormat As You Type, especially "Define
styles based on your formatting." See
