formatting pallett

With no more information than you've volunteered I really don't have much of
an idea what you're asking. The only thing I can offer is that the
Formatting Palette is not a typical toolbar & due to the nature of its
vertical operation it's generally better to keep it to the right or left of
the document window. It can be dragged around by using its title bar.

If this doesn't resolve the issue please take the time to clarify what it is
that you want to do. One-liners are rarely sufficient.

Sorry. I just got word 08. previous word had formatting pallette running horizontally below

word file edit view insert etc

In 08, it's separate and horizontal. Would like to make it horizontal under word file etc and permanently there. Thanks for any advise. SJS

You're referring to the Formatting *Toolbar*, not the Formatting Palette
which is a part of the Toolbox... They're 2 separate & very different
devices. Turn the Formatting Toolbar on as always in View> Toolbars>
Formatting. If it's already checked but still not showing, click the little
capsule at the right end of the document window's title bar. Have a look at
Word Help on the topic: Customize toolbars and menus.
