Formatting paragraphs

When I'm typing anything, and hit return my cursor
automatically goes down to about 1/2 page length. I've
tried several different paragraph formats and it will not
change. I can not just normal type like here. I've tried
removing and reinstalling the program, but it does the
same thing. How can I fix this?

On the Layout tab of Page Setup, change the vertical alignment from
Justified to Top.

In the page setup if you have chosen justify or center the text will do just
that.
