Formatting sheets

I am wondering if anybody can give me any tips about formatting Excel
spreadsheets? Perhaps there is a good web site? I'm often not sure how best
to go about it, especially if I have a combination of figures and text.
Microsoft seems to produce some really clever templates. For instance, all
the gridlines will be turned off and the background formatted a certain
color. I'd like to learn more about doing this on my own spreadsheets.

You might try a Google Search for Excel Formatting to get some ideas.

What I would do:
Make several copies of a sheet I have that is typical of the kinds of
spreadsheets I expect to create.
Experiment with the Formatting Toolbar and the Formatting Menu to see what
looks best.
Also, until you are comfortable with your formatting choices, wait until you
are done typing the data and performing calculations until you try to format.
That way, you can always revert back to a saved version of the data without
any formatting that doesn't seem to be working.

you could also check out the format / autoformat options ... to get some
ideas ... and then change the bits you don't like.
