Formual Protection

Is there a way to lock a formula into a cell yet still allow the user t
alter its content without erasing the formula?

ie I put an index function into a cell, but if the user wished the
could change the cell, but if they mess up the formula is gone

Either a cell contains a formula, which returns a value,
or a cell contains an entered value. You can't have
both.
