How can I make the formula bar open with the document- attach it to the other bars- I do not want to manually open it every time

I'm afraid I really can't visualize what you're asking. The Formula Bar is
independent of any Excel workbook windows & remains displayed on the screen
even when no workbook is open. The exception is if you use the setting in
Excel> Preferences> View to clear the check to display it - which is also
controlled by the View> Formula Bar command [that toggles the setting on/off
by way of the menu]. Whatever you set by either method remains in effect
regardless of what files you open or close.

I'm also not clear on what you mean by "attach it to the other bars" because
toolbars can't be attached to one another... And the Formula Bar isn't a
toolbar in the first place. Even so, there's no reason why you should have
to repeatedly turn it on.

If you can provide a more detailed description of the situation there is
probably some means of handling it. Additionally, it might be useful to know
your exact update level of both Office & OS X.
