Formula for adding recurrences

Hi,

I'm trying to devise a formula (or ? function) to count the number of times
that a privider is associated with a supplier. Column A or B contain the
unique provider and column C or D contain a supplier. It may be a match in
colums A + C, B + D or A+ D or B + C. Can anyone help?

Is this what you mean?

If the name in A or B matches the name in C or D then it will give
value of 1 otherwise if there is no mathc it will give 0

=IF(OR(A1=C1,B1=D1,A1=D1,B1=C1),1,0
