formula problem

Here is the following formula that is giving me an error.
=SUM(A1:A(B1))

I want to total items in column A depending on the number
I type in cell B1. So if I type 10 in cell B1 then the
formula will add the numbers in cells A1 through A10.

What is the correct way to build this formula? Any help I
could get on this would be much appreciated.

Try something like this:
=SUM(INDIRECT("A1:A"&B1))
