formula to calculate diff between department, person plus hrs.

Hi i am trying to calculate between the number of times (C1-C50) named person
peter, dave, diane sheila (A1-A50) has entered a paricular department (choice
of department names A/E, Surgical etc and the number of hours they have been
there (total hrs) H1-50. Any ideas for a formula as your help would be most
appriciated.

A PivotTable will be by far the easiest way to get at these sorts of summaries

not really any good with excel and have never been shown how to do pivot
tables.
