Formulas don't claculate

F

Frank Marousek

Every so often I'll enter a formula-- can be a very simple one like adding
two cells together (=A1+A2)-- and instead of displaying the result, Excel
will display the formula itself as text in the cell.

I have checked and I have autocalculation turned on. What other settings
could cause this behavior?

Hi Frank!

Tools > Options > View
Uncheck "Formulas"

But that applies to all formulas.

Alternative is that the cell is preformatted as text

As Norman said, if this *doesn't* apply to *all* your formulas, only a few,
then simply select those cells displaying the "Text" formulas, and while
they're all selected, do:

<Ctrl> <Shift> <~>(tilde) once,
And then,
<F2>
<Enter>
for each of the cells selected.

And all your cells should now be formulas.
