I've learned how to create a formula that will insert a word/text into a cell
if its linked data is NOT NULL (from another worksheet)... but can I
differentiate between code/formulas and text in that cell?

In other words, the source cell has formula for a link from yet another
worksheet, so my worksheet cell reads that that cell is NOT NULL even though
there's no text in it.

Do you mean NOT BLANK?

A cell with a formula is not blank; but you can use IF to return "". Then
change your formula to look for anything but "" before it proceeds -- i.e.,
IF(A1<>"",C1+A1,"").

Yes, I mean "Not Blank"

So, before, I was using =IF(Sheet1!A1<>"","X","") but if there's a formula
in that cell, it reads it as Not Blank.
Is there another option?
I'm not sure I understand your response. Which formula (which cells - source
or destination) are you saying I should change?

Thank you.

Hi-

I understand you have a cell with that formula

=IF(Sheet1!A1<>"","X","")

so even when that cell shows as "", you're right - it's not blank.

The only "other options" depend on how you want to work with that cell or
range of cells that contains that formula. How are you using that cell/cells
in other formulas (or in conditional formatting?) and what would you like to
do?
