formulas in table

I have a table whic is 4 columns and 5 rows
i have a figue which is being put into d3
I want to work out the vat on this figure and display it
in the cell below. I have tried different syntax but it
doesn't work. I have book marked the table as table1

Any help greatly appreciated

Have you tried something like:
{ = D3 * .15 }

Assuming the VAT is 15%. And the { } are inserted using
Ctrl+F9 (or you use the Table/Formula dialog box).

You don't need to bookmark the table or anything like that
if the formula is in the same table.
