I have three columns. One list the type of ad such as fullpage, half page,
quarter page, etc. The next column is I am trying to deavelop a summary of
each type of ad to get a toal cost of all ads purchased i.e. fp, hp, 1/4 page
etc.

I need a formula that will add up the number of lets say "half page" ads
noted in column b and multiply that number by let's say $80.00. I tried a
countif the range specified was "half Page" but could not get a result or
have the result multiply by the cost of the ad. It just printed the words out.

Then the cell where you are entering the formula is formatted as text.
Change the format to general and the reenter the formula. If the answer is
still wrong, post again with your exact formula.
