Is there any way to create a simple log in page in a front page discussion forum and do it entirely with Front Page? I would like the user to be able to browse the forum and then be required to login in to post. I am using front page 2003 and hosted on a linux server. If it cannot be done entirely within the confines of Front Page, what is the next best option. If you reply to this, be detailed because I am not very good at this technical stuff.

No. You would have the ability to create a subweb and then set permissions on the subweb. Then you
would create the DW within this subweb. Not all host allow subwebs.

where exactly do you set the permissions for the subweb?

You open the subweb on the live server in FP, then Tools | Permissions, if grayed out, then you host
doesn't allow you to set permissions.

If its not greyed out, what do I set the permissions to and once they are set, then what? How is this related to getting a user to log in

You really should contact your host to see how it works.

Before you get started, you need to be aware that you must create user accounts for each user first
before they can login. Second you need to contact your host to see if there is a limit to the number
of users you can have.

If this is not workable, then you will need to search for database based forum application based on
the service-side scripting language supported by your host.

This is way too Ify for me. The bottom line is you cant do it with Front Page and maybe you can do it some other way with your host if they let you, all of which seems to make the Front Page Discussion Forum a bit on the weak side.

Thanks for all of your help. I was just hoping the Wizard would do all of this for me :) cause all the rest of this is a bit over my head

DW is kinda basic.

Maybe you should look into a forum type software package, there are several very good free ones out there, and you can still use FP on your main web if you install the forum on a subweb

You'll have to learn a little bit about databases but once you have them set up they are really easy to admin. You'll be able to have passwords for all users etc
