FP 03: auto replacing < with &lt;

suddenly, on a file I've been editing for weeks, FP 03 keeps replacing
some tags.

many (not all) of my tags get replaced with their browser equivalent.
< replace with &lt;
replaced with &gt;

In searching on this topic...

I have not pasted from a Word file. I have cleaned the text by pasting
into/back from notepad. I have ReplacedALL on the tags being changed
back to the HTML looking tags. FP keeps changing some.

Screws stuff up when I publish.

I have seen a references to HTML or Normal mode in FP 2000.

Same in 2003? Can't find it.

HELP!! Wasted hours already!
