FP 03 not recognizing IIS / IIS not recognizing FP 03

Michael Corbett

Hi all ...
.... Michael Corbett here .

I have upgraded my Win XP (Home Edition) to XP Pro. I have upgraded FP 98
to FP 03. um ... for some reason .. IIS (5.1) does not want to
acknowledge FP 03 as existing. IIS doesn't even recognize the new Server
Extentions of FP 03.

Also... FP 03 doesn't want to recognize IIS as being alive or existing. I
don't know what to do ...

I have a "HOSTS" file is c:\windows (with no extention)- Local Host
127.0.0.1 and thetalisman 127.0.0.1 , I have the FP 98 Server Extentions on
IIS. IIS will recognize the server extensions of FP 98 ... but not the
ones from FP 03. Additionally, IIS will not open FP 03 to edit the Default
Web Site. I get the error message " You must install Front Page to Edit
this web site with front Page. " and.... hahaha ... I know FP 03 IS
installed... oh .. I did install the FP 98 server extensions on IIS from
IIS directly using the extensions manager.

When I go to FP 03 ... and try to start a new web site ... I get 3 choices
: 1.) http://--nohost--/mysite 2.) C:\Inetpub\wwwroot 3.) C:\Documents
and Settings\Michael\My Documents\My Web Sites. If I choose the first
( which is what I want ) .... I get the following error message: "The web
server at http://thetalisman does not appear to have Windows SharePoint
Services Installed."
Well, I didn't think I could install those on a stand alone machine.

If I try to open the Default Web Site directly from FP 03 (
c:\InetPub\wwwroot) .. nothing happens... it's like there is NO web site
there ... hahaha... but I know that there is.

I am at a loss for what to do .. I tried to find the FP 02 server
extensions on Microsoft's web site ..thinking that may be part of the
problem. ( and believe me .. I looked everywhere I could think of) ..but I
couldn't find them... I found the UpDate Patch .. but not the genuine
article.

Prior to upgrading to XP Pro ... I was using FP 98, FP 03 and the Personal
Web Server. Yea ... I know the Personal Web server is not SUPPOSED to
work with XP Home Edition. Um ... well ... I made an interesting
discovery about 8 months ago.. after I installed FP 98 and the Personal
Web server on XP Home ... yea .. I couldn't use the Personal Web Server..
So, I went ahead and installed FP 03 anyway ... I imported the web site I
was working on in to FP 03. I would edit the pages in FP 03 (with all the
cool tools and toys) ... then I would have to close FP 03... open FP 98
to publish to the web to use the server extensions ... and it worked. !!
DUH !!.... hahaha ... it was the sloppy way of doing things .. granted
.... but it worked.

now my website client has sought another web master ... and now I'm trying
to get my new XP Pro and cool FP 03 to "play nice with each other." ...
yea .. I un- installed everything ... and have re-installed both ... in
more order and combinations than I care to write here... < embarrassed
grin > .. I've really tried at this. Yea ... I even cleaned out the
registry with a free reg cleaner "TweekNow Registry Cleaner"

I'm at my wits end .. I want to use FP 03 and IIS ... using the local
http:// and the Virtual SMTP email services ...

I would dearly appreciate any thoughts, suggestions (SOLUTIONS - hehehe)
that anyone may have to offer ... I thank you in advance ...

Oh .. to email me .. please remove the "MC_" from my email address. Again
,, thanks in advance ... and I apologize for this being such a long message

cordially ,
Michael Corbett

FP 2000 extensions come with IIS 5.1, and can be installed via add/control
programs. So, technically, you do *not* have to install the 2002
extensions. However, IMO, the simplest and more seamless way to do this is
install the FP2000 extensions that come with IIS5.1, then upgrade to the
2002 extensions.

| You *do* have to install FP 2002 extensions on your local machine for IIS
to

| Not PWS.
| You will access your local server webs as http://localhost/youwebname

Hi All ...
.... Michael Corbett here ...

Um ... I have installed the 2000 server extensions from the control panel
.... unfortunately ... I'm getting the same thing... If I may ask ...
where can I find the 2002 server extensions ... I presumed they came with FP
03 ... but ..for some reason they didn't install on IIS.. I went to
Microsoft's web site and I found the 2002 update patch .. and the 2002
extensions for 64 bit windows...

However, I couldn't find the original 2002 extensions ... am I looking in
the wrong place ? I do thank you all for taking the time to help with
this ... It seemed like a straight forward type of install ... I don't know
what I may have done to make this complicated...

I would appreciate an address where I can find the 2002 extensions ... and
I'll install them .. and see what happens from there ...

to reply by email .. please remove the "MC_" Thanks to all .

cordially,
Michael Corbett
