FP 2000 - Shared Border Question

Hi everyone -

I have used FP 2000 for quite sometime now and for the
most part like it.

However, I am looking at a ton of revisions on my site
and I'm not looking forward to having to touch each page
of my site because of an issue I have with shared borders.

Basically, I have a top and bottom shared border. My
assumption, originally, when I created these was that if
I make a change to them, I FTP the updated top or bottom
border to my ISP and then the entire site is updated.

WRONG...

I have had to physically touch and re-save all pages on
the site and then individually FTP them to my ISP.

I do not use Front Page extensions at all, but just use
Smart Term for publishing (FTPing).

Can anyone enlighten me as to what I could possibly be
doing wrong?

Shouldn't I be able to just FTP over the correct top.htm
to the _border file and then all pages should be okay?

No. FrontPage implements shared borders by physically
copying the border contents into each page.

If you had the FrontPage Server Extensions installed on
your server and used them for Publishing, then yes, you
could publish only the border file and the extensions
would replicate them. But with no extensions, that doesn;t
happen.

I presume you have a local FrontPage Web that contains all
your content. Update your shared borders there, then
choose Publish Web from the File menu. Specify your site's
FTP address, as in ftp://ftp.myserver.com/public_html, and
then click Publish.
