FP 2002 Paragraph Formatting Always Gets Screwy In Normal Mode

S

Suntower

This has driven me nuts since I got FP 2002.

It seems as though every time I hit <enter> to create a new <p> the screen
display for all the paragraphs goes nuts. Quickly switching to Preview then
back or to HTML and then back fixes the display but why should I have to do
this -every- frickin' time I start a new paragraph. I tried this on another
machine and it's the same deal. How come?

BTW: Using Office XP SP3. I tried various combinations of 'compatibility'
options hoping against hope that these would do the trick, but no joy.

Any thoughts? This has =got= to be a simple setting. It -can't- work like
this for everyone, right?

TIA,

Check for updates for your video card driver.

Say what?

I have no formatting issues like this with the same raw HTML in Word,
Publisher, Multi-Edit, Robohelp, and on and on...

And again, I've run into this on multiple machines.

Any other ideas?

Are you using an VML (word/shape art) or absolute positioning - all requiring a screen redraw

---But it happens on multiple machines.

Again, shouldn't when I hit <enter> the whole paragraph simply move -down-?
What happens is that every paragraph on the page will indent, some left,
some right.

Really annoying. I -know- it's a bug, because, again, when I go to preview
it looks fine and when I return to the Normal view, everything corrects
itself.

Is this a known bug that was fixed in FP2003?

Where are you seeing this issue, in HTML / Code View? If normal view, then I still think it is a
video card/driver issue.

Never seen or heard of this issue before now.

Arggggh.... I tried replying to this with JPGs demonstrating what is
happening but it appears that this site doesn't allow attachments.

I have tried this on 3 machines: XP Home, XP Pro, W2K and they all behave

You need to understand your styles (applied to td - not a <p> w/i the td) and that when you hit enter you are adding a <p> tag in
the cell which does not inherit the style (of the span tag)
- start by removing all your styles from td and apply them to <p> tags w/i the TD
- also why apply font tag (size) when you are also applying styles

www.suntowermusic.com/cd4_songs.htm

....is one example. But it happens with -any- page. There are no indents.

AGAIN, and -sorry- if I sound frustrated, but I am. And these replies are
trying to find something wrong in the basic HTML and there isn't anything
wrong to find I don't think.

1. If I switch to HTML view then back to Normal it views as expected (ie. no
indents.) If -I- was doing something wrong, wouldn't it stay indented after
I switched back?

2. If I load the same HTML into MS Word or RoboHelp or Multi-Edit or
DreamWeaver it formats as I expect every time.

3. This was NOT a problem in FrontPage 98. Same darned HTML.

Thanks for responding. I really am grateful for your efforts.
