FP 2003

Debra

I just upgraded to FP2003 from 2000. I have never used themes before, just
built my sites from scratch. But I have been reading about all the features
that 2003 has. I opened a new web site, and applied a theme to my site. But I
can't see the headers, buttons or anything from the theme when I'm trying to
create a new page. How do I use a theme and what am I doing wrong. Can
someone direct me a little please ? I did apply the theme to the whole site.

Thank you,
Debra

things like headers (page banners) and navigation buttons will only appear
once you've dragged your pages into "navigation view" and arranged them the
way you want.

Chris,
I just opened up my Website. Started a new page for my index page. Applied a
theme to it and saved it in my website. Clicked on the navigation tab and
there is my index page. But still can't see anything. Please just get me
started. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

now that you see your index page in nav. view, drag other pages under it,
globally next to it, etc.

you can right click and rename them in "nav. view" and the changes will be
reflected in the nav bars and page banners.

one thing I would want to mention;
this behavior we're discussing isn't usually part of a default "theme" but
something that you've find in a "web template" which is an actual site with
pages already defined.
you may need to lay navigation bars and page banners into your pages.

Is any of this on the internet yet? we could look at it.

Chris,
I went to view-navigation. I saw my index page. Created new pages and put
them under my index page in navigation view. I renamed them as you
instructed. That all worked. A little box came up telling me I could add
Shared Borders. I go to Format-Shared Borderes. But it is grayed out. I'm
totally lost. I was not as frustrated when I created my web pages from
scratch.
I need to build a brand new web site. That is why I thought I would use a
theme to try it out. First time. I went to File-New and chose Empty Website.
Did this and applied a theme from Format-Themes. Never been built or posted.
I use Windows Xp and as far as I have read, I can't use Pesonal Web server to
test with, I have to use IIS 5. I am so lost !!!! Any help is appreciated.

not to be sarcastic but, I was in the FP help for about a day seeing if I
could figure this out on my own. I usually look in Help before I post. Not
much help. But thanks.

It's just "growing pains". maybe you have just a page open and not a whole
site (the reason you've got inop options).
I need to build a brand new web site. That is why I thought I would use a
theme to try it out.

FWIW, the best way to go is visit a place like www.pixelmill.com they sell
themes and templates. get a nice frontpage site template that you like and
work with that. it's a good way to get used to the way the "components"
work. IMHO you get a lot of bang for your buck with a nice template. for a
few bucks you get litterally hundreds of hours worth of work done for you.
Here's one from them on my demo: http://demo.contentseed.com/ it's very
"frontpagey" in that it uses a lot of fp components.

First time. I went to File-New and chose Empty Website.
