FP2002: Import doesn't bring in Navigation data

B

Barry Seymour

I'm trying to get a local copy of my web from the webserver to a folder on
my hard disk for local editing using FP2002. When I do an import, then try
to open the web the Navigation Pane only displays the home page. Why is
this, and how can I fix it?

Thanks in advance...

Barry

Forgot to mention -- I used the 'recalculate links' option but it did not
help.

Unless the live/remote server has the FP extensions and you can open it directly in FP and then
publish a copy to your local PC, you will have to re-build the navigation structure and re-apply any
themes, shared borders, etc.

Importing will only copy the pages and files that can be linked to
from the Home page using a browser. Importing will not bring in
databases, shared border files, and navigation data. To get the
entire web you must open it in FrontPage and publish to a folder on
your hard disc. This requires your webserver is running the FrontPage
extensions.

I found the solution. The Import function is designed to bring in non-FP
sites and should not be used. The solution is to connect to the *remote* web
and 'publish' it to a *local* folder.
