FP2002 top ten lists - referring URLs

M

Michelle

When I view the "top ten referring URLs" report for a site
on our company intranct, I see 5 listed referrers and the
numbers for these 5 total 22. When I view the "top ten
page hits" report, FP reports 72 hits on just the home
page of the site. It doesn't appear that the numbers to
the right of the referring URL correspond to page hits, so
what do these numbers mean?

Thank you,
Michelle

It means there were 22 hits for which a referrer could be
determined, and for which that referrer was outside your
site.

The referrer information comes from an HTTP header that
the browser supplies. If the browser is configured not to
send that header, or if the visitor typed the URL into the
address bar, then referrer information won't be available
for that hit.

Hits that come from search engines and other Web crawlers
may also lack referrer information.
