FP2003 Email hyperlink error...

B

Bear Pair

After adding an email hyperlink to a combination of graphic & text on a new
web page, when I checked the page in preview (& in browser window) to make
sure everything worked, I keep getting the following error when clicking on
the hyperlink:
"Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. The command line argument is not valid.
Verify the switch you are using."
What is it talking about? I've run queries through the Knownledge database
and help system, but NOTHING!
Help, please... THANKS!

Hi Terry,

What is the URL? Without see the link being used it would be very hard to answer.

The page is not published yet, primarily because I was getting this error. It
is an "email" link to the following address:
mailto:[email protected]

Do you have Outlook configured as your default email application?

Using the mailto link requires that all users to your site have a email application set as the
default application as well.

Yes, I use Outlook 2003... So what you are saying is that the email address
should just be: [email protected], without the "mailto:" (which I
did not include, FP2003 just added it)???

No that is not what I am saying, you must have the mailto: in front of a email address for it to be
a active link. Also make sure your page doesn't have any default target values set for the page
containing any mailto links.

You Email client (Outlook) must be set as your default email client under your browser. Also be
aware that Outlook 2003 has new security setting which may have a impact on this functionality.

As a test, you can enable Outlook Express to be your default email client in IE.

Now I'm really confused... since publishing my revised site
(t.lampel.home.att.net) last Winter, along with a newer page at
(BearPair.home.att.net) added in June, I have always used Outlook as my
default email program, including with IE... I've never had any issues with
the handling of emails coming to us from the site pages, which were created
with FP2003, as is the current page with the problem.
I.e., nothing said to date has really guided me to a solution... What do I
do next?
Thanks.

This appear to be a problem with your local OutLook 2003 configuration, as I have not problem access
the mailto link in Outlook Express via IE on http://t.lampel.home.att.net/bearpair.htm

Suggest you post to the Outlook newsgroup.
