fp2003 sharepoint error

I updated my 2003 server with many patches - brought it up to date

Now I get several errors on editing Frontpage websites:

Error accessing SharePoint site files: ... contact administrator ...see
event log
and
FrontPage cannot save navigation changes. do you want to get the old ones
from the server.

I am the admin and there are NO entries in the log files. It has to be a
permission problem somewhere but the documentation is so poor I can't find
anything

DOES ANYBODY know anything about this STUPID SHAREPOINT CRAP
I am NOT using Sharepoint Services
Just FrontPage 2003 and The FP extensions

When you get an error message, the message is the same for both sharepoint and the FP extensions.

Have you run a server extensions health check and let FP correct the permissions?
