FP2K- Image/Photo and Save Target As...

C

Carl Fenley

I don't know whether this is a FrontPage 2000 question or an Internet
Information Sever 5.0 question. I am getting ready to publish a lot of
photos on a web-site, and I may want to disable the client's ability to save
the photos locally.

Is that something I can do with FrontPage 2000 or IIS 5.0?

If this is possible, either way, what is the impact to the client and
server? I take it the photos would not be saved to the client's temporary
internet files?

Any answers, advice, or links are greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

- carl

It is not possible. A browser downloads files. By the time they see the
image in their browser, it is already on their machine.

From Jim's site:

"Digimarc is one of the most popular providers of digital watermarking. Digimarc is included in Adobe Photoshop and many other image editing tools. When you apply a watermark to an image with Digimarc, the watermark is added to the entirety of the image. Therefore, even if you crop out large portions of the image, the entire watermark is retained and can be read. Digimarc offers a free watermark reader that can read watermarked images"

Unless they've changed Digimarc in the last couple of years...don't fall for this method either. I stumbled across a remarkably simple method of defeating digimarc a while back. I won't go into here.

Basically...if you can see it on the web...you can rip it.

What I do is just use the smallest possible image at the lowest res. possible that still looks good - that way it's pretty useless if it is ripped.

However, it's only useful if someone were to take an image and use it
on another website.
It can't find / identify images saved to a computer.

Sorry to step in here, but this subject has been covered soooooo many times
in the past. It is always good to look thru the last week's posts to see if
your question has already been answered.

I searched back to Feb 17, on both 'photo' and 'image', in the subject line,
and found no threads covering this subject. As for manually perusing the
2000 or so messages that were posted over the last week, that is simply too
time-consuming, and frankly, counter-productive.

Having said that, I did find the answer to another question I had about
obfuscating my email address on a web-page by browsing previous messages,
sparing you the wasted time of actually replying to yet another post, which
itself, was a waste of time.
