FP98 suddenly won't save

H

hallis

I am using FrontPage 98 with Windows ME. I am working on several web
pages in FP Editor, and save them periodically. The Save function
works fine for a while, then suddenly, when I hit Save, I get the
message:

Unable to connect to a server at 'mycomputer'sID' on port 80 (socket
code 100065)

I get this message when I don't have an active dialup connection. When
I DO have an active dialup connection, I get this message:

Timed out while trying to connect to a server at 'mycomputer'sID' on
port 80.

I went to Control Panel-->Personal Web Server and it shows the server
is running.

If I close FP and reopen it, it works fine again for a time, then
starts refusing to save again. I know there must be something simple
I'm missing, but I can't figure out what it is! Thanks in advance for
any help!

Do you have yahoo IM installed??
If so shut it down as it claims port 80
for it's P2P file sharing feature.

May sure you always open the web first with FPExplorer, then use FPEditor to
edit your pages.

....and, since FP98 requires a web server, and Win ME doesn't support a MS
web server, this could be leading to some conflicts.
