Frames and text display

I'm trying to work out the best way to display a piece of text generated on
one frame into another frame. I have a site with two frames, a header and
main page. I would like to know the best way to use JAVA (or a simular
technology) to have a text display field in the header section that is
updated by a static text from the main frame. Does anybody have any sample
code that may help?
