frames problem

I am trying to publish my first frames page using FP2002 or FP2000 .. I
have found this problem.....
I open a new template and choose frames page then contents template ..
which gives me a left frame which I want to place my links to navigate
around my site... then I create the main body in the left frame... when
this is complete I save the page and open a new contents page with the
same template .... set the left frame using the original htm file
created for the original left frame page then create a new page in the
right frame... (I save every thing continually) then I go back to the
first page I made and create a link on that page to the newly created
page save it all then then test it .. when I click on the link on the
original page .. I get an extra left identical frame in the page I
linked to.. i have tried several ways to work around this .. tried the
help .. don't know exactly what to search for .. havnt found a solution
or the answer anywhereon the web how to build this sort of web so that
it works properly .. all I really want to happen is when a link is
clicked from any page the right hand frame "only" renews ... but I'm
doing this wrong I suspect .. can someone tell me what steps I need to
take to make this work as I need it to.. I have tried several things
but nothing at all works ..I either get no left frame or two .. any
help apreciated
thanks

Zaphod,

I use a frame on my webpage as well. I know that under certain testing
conditions, I will get a second frame that pops up, but it has happened so
long ago, that I don't remember what causes it. So in some cases, that won't
really happen when the pages are published, it is a testing problem.

The other thing that I wonder about is this.

I have three "index" pages. I have index which is the page that contains
the frame and the right-hand section.

Then I have two more index pages, one is call contentsindex and the other is
mainindex.

Those last two are the links I use when I want a user to return to the
webpage as it looks when it is first loaded.

As I recall, although I couldn't prove it when I did a little testing just
now, if I set the user to link back to "index", it causes a second frame to
pop up. On the right-hand stuff, they need to link back to mainindex and in
the frame section, they need to link back to contentsindex.

Are you linking back to index?

not sure if thats the problem .. but I'm getting very tired of this as
I've been poking around looking for tutorials or help and pressing the
f1 button trying to think what to ask help with no answer so far .. but
heres the outcome .. I've uploaded a dummy page to my server ..it works
differently remotely to local .. so i feel I'm going to go completely
made working this out
hope you can help .. heres the link
http://balder.prohosting.com/isitcomp/framesproblem/
when the link in the right frame is clicked locally it loads the right
frame and two identical left frames when you click on the link in the
right frame remotely you get the left frame as it should be then
another left frame the same size that is blank and a 404 error in the
right frame .. so what is this i don't know but it's maddening
if you wish to check out whats being loaded locally download this zip
... its virus free
