Freeze ups

I have Windows XP on my cpu. Recently I have been having freeze ups at
start or shortly thereafter. I have to restart at least 3x before the
system functions properly. What is the problem or what can I do????Send the
calvary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
