Freeze when clicking "Reply"

I've been having a problem with my Outlook freezing when I
click the "Reply" button to an email. I've tried it with
the email open, and then with the email closed but using
the "Reply" button.

I get no error, but have to use the task mgr. to close
Outlook. Only when I shut down the computer do I get a
message that says something about losing that reply if I
continue. At that point everything is shutting down and
when I click "ok" I can hear another error sound, but then
the computer is beyond stopping the shutdown process.
Once I'm back up, I can open Outlook just fine, but still
cannot reply to emails. Any ideas? Outlook/Office 2003-
tried to update the SP1 but was unsuccessful at that,
also.

Does the same behaviour happen when starting Outlook in safe mode?

How to:
* Start | Run
* type: outlook.exe /safe
* ok button

No, it works fine when I try that. Will I have to run my
outlook in safe mode? Oh the many questions I have about
that.

<lol> no, it just helps isolate possible causes.

Try renaming outcmd.dat to outcmd.bat while Outlook is closed. Now start
Outlook normally, does it work? If no, proceed to next step.

Lets clear the forms cache, this is done by select Tools | Options | Other
tab | Advanced Options button | Custom Forms | Manage Forms | Clear cache.
Restart Outlook and give it go.

If it fails at this point, then we can try
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;319045.

Outside of that, do you have WinFax Pro installed?

I renamed outcmd.dat to outcmd.bat - no luck.
I cleared forms cache as instructed - no luck.
I did everything it said to do to the letter in the link
provided - still no luck.
I did a search for anything "fax" and have a winfax.dll
in "I386" and "Windows\system 32", along with 90 other
items with "fax" in the name on my hard drive. I don't
fax from this computer, but nice to know I can, I guess.

One thing is different, now when I click reply, first I
get a window saying "Microsoft Word 2003 starting as email
editor" and I wasn't getting that before. So I went in
and turned off the option for Microsoft Word as an
editor. Now I can reply. Sux I can't use Word for an
editor, but at least folks won't think I'm ignoring them
altogether now :)

Thank you for all your help.
