Freezing panes

I wish to freeze the upper left corner of the first 5 cells (A1:A5) so that
if I scroll right or down the freezed cells will just stay visible whereever
I am in the sheet. But I cannot manage to do so. When I freeze the cells and
if I scroll down, then the RHS of the freezed cells stay also freezed which
I don't want. I just want to freeze the cells and if I scroll right or down
the unfreezed parts should scroll as I do. I tried split but also same
problem appears. Any solution?

You could open a new window to the same sheet and arrange them so that
both are visible on screen at the same time. You could adjust the size
of the first window to show just those cells that you want to be
"frozen", and in the other window you can scroll across and down as
you wish. To do this with Excel 2003 or earlier, click on Window | New
Window, and in Excel 2007 click on View then New Window. To get rid of
the extra window you just need to use the close icon at the top corner
of the window.

Hope this helps.

You can Freeze Panes, Freeze Columns, Or Freeze rows. You can't freeze
part of a column, but you can open another window to show just those 5
cells.
