From Excel table to Powerpoint table

when i build a table in xl and then can copy it in pwpt (either
directly or linked or as an image or whatever), i find the resulting
chart quite unpretty
therefore i always re-design the table in pwpt and then enter the
values.
does anyone knows how to automate this task?

You are probably using Office 2003 to do this which no longer pastes
the XL range as an XL OLE object but as PPT table. When you paste
choose Paste Special and choose the option to paste as an Excel
worksheet object.
It will retain all formatting done in XL.
