FROM FIELD: None of your e-mail accounts could send to this recipi

I'm getting the message "None of your e-mail accounts could send to this
recipient" in Outlook 2003. I understand from the knowledge base that there
is a problem, but there's no good solution. Every time I send an email
outside the server, it won't send because there's no name in the FROM FIELD -
even if I show the FROM field, the email comes back and when I open the email
that was sent, the email does not have anything entered in the from field -
this is very irritating. So, the question is, how do I set up the account to
ensure that there's an email address in the FROM FIELD - I went to accounts
and settings and everything checks out just fine...

I suspect that the lack of a From address is not the problem but a result
of the fact that the message couldn't be sent, and therefore Outlook did
not have an account's From address to use.

The message you're getting most often comes as a result of a bad address
type in a Contact that you're using as a recipient. If you are sending to
someone in your Contacts, double-click on the email address in that Contact
and make sure the address type is set to "SMTP".

Nope, that's not it - I'm sending an email directly to my hotmail address as
a test message by typing it in. I went to "show from field" when sending the
message and nothing is in there, and I can choose a FROM name or anything -
all of my fields are set up in the mail accounts screens as well... any other
ideas?

Thank you!

Are you using Outlook's built-in Hotmail support, or using the MSN
connector?

Ben,

You are probably doing what I was doing - copying and pasting
someone's email address from in the email into the To field. For
instance, an email address I was copying and pasting earlier was in
this format:

From: Mr Fictional [mailto:[email protected]]

Copying and pasting this address into the To field causes the Outlook
contact to be of type "MAILTO" instead of "SMTP". Changing it back to
SMTP doesn't seem to help.

You need to make sure you don't copy email addresses like the above
one into your from field. The easiest way is to just use the bare
email address ([email protected]) instead.
