Front Page Banner Switching

J

John K.

In the FrontPage (2003) program, the page banners match the link bars
perfectly:
Page banner A displays link bar A title,
Page banner B displays link bar B title, etc.
When I publish the site, some of the pages (but not all) will reflect the
following:
Page banner A will display link bar C's title,
Page banner B will display link bar A's title, etc. The data on each page
is correct, it's just that the Page banner displays the wrong title. The
link bar on the left is in proper sequence. I have made sure the Properties
for both the page banner and the navigation bar are correct.
Any help anyone can provide will be most appreciated! John K.

Have a look in "Navigation view" and check the titles are correct for the
pages

Thanks, Teriel9, but yes they are. That's what makes this so frustrating.
Everything is perfect on my laptop, but when I upload to the server, the
banner headings, like musical chairs, switch around giving the wrong title
for each page.

Thanks again for your response!

What option are you selecting during publishing?

Thomas:

I've tried "Local to Remote" as well as "Syncronize" and it happens under
either way.

Are selecting to optimize the HTML?
Are you publishing with Change Pages Only option selected?

Thomas, thanks again for responding.
1. No, I am not selecting to optimize the HTML. It looks too risky to me.
2. Yes, the Change Pages Only option is on. But just to experiment, I over
wrote the entire site, and still the wrong banner descriptions appear on some
pages.
.. . .still stumped!

URL to the site, and indicate a wrong and right page.

Thomas: see http://www.michelletheer.org
click on "Myth vs. Fact" as an example. The banner title is wrong, even
though it displays correctly in Frontpage in Preview mode.
"Set Michelle Free"
"Acknowledgements"
"Feedback"
are also displaying the wrong title.

Everything is correct in Frontpage (Properties, Navagation, etc)

Thanks again for responding!

Remove all spaces from file and folder names for starters.

Run Tools | Recalculate Hyperlinks

Ask your host to run a server health check for your account.

Thomas, thanks once again for responding. You are my only hope left.

a. I'm not totally clear about removing the spaces from the file and folder
names. Some of the links and page banners work fine - it's only a few that
are disfunctional. I'm hesitant to change what I already have, since some
work fine.

b. I've run the Recalculate Hyperlinks many times to no avail.

c. My host folks (canaca.com) indicated to me the server is fine.

Why would everything look great in preview mode and then go dysfunctional
once loaded to the server? Also, it's not uniform. Some of the pages are
fine, while only a few are broken:

I don't know about you, but some of my best "Eureka's!" come in the early
morning when I'm taking a shower. Hopefully, tomorrow morning will bring me
an "Eureka!" to this problem.

Thanks again for all of your help, Thomas. If I ever get this solved,
you'll be the first to know!

Hi John:
If I were you, I would do what Thomas is recommending with respect to the
spaces in the folder and filenames, in fact, I would also recommend that the
file and folder names also be all in lower case, example: change
http://www.michelletheer.org/About the Trial.htm to
http://www.michelletheer.org/about/about_the_trial.htm

Jimco has addins for both - Case Changer and Space Replacer
http://www.jimcosoftware.com/addins.aspx/

Just give it a shot, you never know :)

Kathleen:

Thank you so very, very much. To be honest, I'm not totally clear as to how
to make these changes, but I've downloaded the jimcosoftware addins and I'll
give it a try. I had the same problem with my father-in-laws site
(www.fredbasolo.com) and was never able to overcome the problem. Stay tuned
- I'll let you know if your solution works!

Thanks, again (and you too, Thomas for hanging in there with me!).

Kathleen:

Thanks again for the good advice. I downloaded and ran Case Changer and
Space Replacer. Unfortunately, while these programs did what they said they
would do, it did not solve my problem. I also asked the Host to re-set
FrontPage on their server and I then reloaded the entire site. Still - the
problem exists. I also don't see a similar problem in the discussion groups.
If you have any other ideas, I am most willing to hear them.

Thanks again for your suggestions! If I ever discover the solution, I'll
let you know.
