Front page shows folders, but not files within

Using FP2003 /. Win XP pro, when I try to open any site on my local PC, I
can see the directory (folder) structure, but neither are the individual
files in these folders visible, nor can they be opened of course.

The only way to open the files is by going to File | Open Recent.

Do you know why this happens?

Tools, Site Settings, Advanced Tab. Check the box to show hidden files and
folders. Then do Tools, Recalculate Hyperlinks.

Try running a Tools Recalculate Hyperlinks and also switching from Web Site View to Reports View to see if your file list is
restored

Also try some cleanup before opening FP
1) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all FP Temp Files
Usually in C:\WINDOWS\Temp and %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp
- in FP 2003 you need to look in the super hidden folder
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\FrontPageTempDir
Also delete your IE Temp files
2) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all hidden *.web files
Usually in %USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Web Server Extensions\Cache
